Vice- President said the theme of this year’s Summit— “Water-related Disaster Challenges: Leadership and Commitment”— highlights the strong commitments of leaders around the world to address the issue of water security and challenges cropping up with water disasters.

President U Thein Sein received former US Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary Clinton at Four Seasons Hotel in Washington of the United States of America at 9.30 am yesterday.

President visited the Mt Vernon Home of the President George Washington and observed the late president’s plantation home. He then laid a wreath at President George Washington’s Tomb.

A Myanmar delegation led by Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Dr Sai Mauk Kham left Yangon yesterday evening by air to attend the Second Asia-Pacific Water Summit to be held in Chiang Mai and the 10th Celebrations for the United Nations Day of Vesak (Buddha’s Birthday) in Bangkok of Thailand and arrived in Chiang Mai at 4.40 pm local standard time.

Chairman of National Natural Disasters Preparedness Central Committee Vice-President U Nyan Tun called for a parallel focus on preparation and rehabilitation works ahead of the cyclonic storm Mahasen, demanding for constant contact with the response teams on the ground.

In the face of natural disasters, the State is taking care of the victims on humanitarian ground, without racial and religious discriminations. Victims need to follow government’s measures without any fears. What the most important thing is to avoid casualties.

 Chairman of National Natural Disaster Preparedness Central Committee Vice-President U Nyan Tun accompanied by the members of management work committee made an inspect ion tour of Rakhine State today to perform natural disaster preparedness and safety procedures based on An and to inspect evacuation of local people.

Keynote Speech

The President focused on microfinance works and promotion of cooperative societies for provision of financial capital for rural folks and urban grassroots. The microfinance works being carried out by the Ministry of Cooperatives today, said the President, is not only intended for welfare of people for immediate future but also for systematically helping them to stand on their own without needing to take out loans in certain period of time. Therefore, people need to make effective use of the loans they take out in their businesses and they are also to repay the loans in full when the time is due, stressed the President.
