For over seven decades, the United Nations has been serving as a venue uniting the strength of its members to maintain international peace and security and to achieve sustainable development.
On behalf of the people of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and on my own, I take great pleasure in congratulating the United Nations on the auspicious occasion of its 71st anniversary.
Member States gather at different fora under the framework of the United Nations system and make many remarkable achievements in finding peaceful solutions to disputes, sending peacekeepers, sheltering millions of people amid manmade and natural disasters, promoting and protecting human rights and providing development assistance.
Peace, Security and Development are inter-related and interconnected. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without peace. Peace is not sustainable without Development. Poverty eradication therefore stands as one of the solutions in addressing many of today’s challenges.
Realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is thus a priority for the United Nations and its Member States. Today, the United Nations remains a receptacle of our hopes for a more peaceful and prosperous world, and a kinder and more compassionate home for all.
Cooperating with the United Nations is a cornerstone of Myanmar’s Foreign Policy. Myanmar, as a member of the global community, is therefore committed to continue its strong support and cooperation to the United Nations in addressing our common challenges through international cooperation.
Let us all celebrate this auspicious day by reaffirming our faith and confidence in the purposes and principles sustained in the Charter. Let us dedicate ourselves to support all its efforts for development, peace, security and human rights to bring about a better future form Mankind.
